The Magic & Mystery That Is Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson was born on the 29th of August 1958, in Gary, Indiana. He was raised with his six brothers, Sigmund, Toriano, Jermaine, Marlon, Steven and three sisters Rebbie, Janet and La-Toya. He was the seventh of the nine Jackson children. Michael Jackson displayed a talent for music and dance from an extremely young age. His childhood was hard from the start, he was to an extent sheltered from the outside world by his mother's Jehovah's Witness faith, and his father was a strict disciplinarian. His parents Joseph and Katherine Jackson began to organize a family musical group with Michael quickly establishing himself as a dynamic stage performer. His love of James Brown's dance moves made him a natural focal point, especially his incredibly young age. Michael began his musical career at the age of five by becoming the lead singer of the Jackson Five, a band made from his five brothers and during these early years the Jackson Five played local clubs and bars in Gary Indiana, then going to bigger cities as there talents grew so they could compete in bigger competitions. By the time he was ten, the band had a record deal with Motown records. Their first four singles all went to number one in the charts and they became the biggest boy band in America. The Jacksons made another 20 albums altogether, the last was Victory in 1984 then Michael went solo. |

Michael's Solo Career After Leaving The Jackson's
He recorded his first solo album Off the Wall. With the funky disco pop and smooth soul sentimental pop ballads, the new album made Michael Jackson a star all over again. Michael remained loyal to his brothers and stayed with the Jackson’s but no group could have contained Michael Jackson’s rapidly rising star for long. His next album was destined to become the biggest in history. Thriller refined the strengths of Off the Wall but the dance and rock tracks were funkier. He asked guitarist Eddie Van Halen for a solo, and Vincent Price for a creepy voice over, it was no surprise that Thriller became a number one hit. He supported them with video clips that revolutionized the way music videos were made. Thriller stayed on the charts for over two years, and became the best selling album of all time. During his long layoff between recording, Michael indulged his interest in film and video by working with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola on the 3-D short film Captain EO. Then finally, he began the near impossible task of crafting a follow up to Thriller. Bad was released and became the first album ever to produce five number one hits. He supported the album with a lengthy world tour that featured a spectacular stage show which became the highest grossing tour of all time. After having doing his longest tour ever he took another long break between recording albums and when he returned with a new Dangerous album he was being called the King of Pop. During the Dangerous world tour Jackson announced the creation of his Heal the World Foundation. As for his standard of music videos, they were among the most costly, creative, and innovative of their time. The video "Heal the World" corresponds to his charity of the same name and features children from around the world. |
